What It Does
The TikTok Hook Generator creates opening lines and visual hook concepts for your TikTok videos. The first 2–3 seconds of a TikTok determine whether viewers keep watching or swipe away — a strong hook is the single highest-leverage improvement most creators can make to their watch-time metrics.
How to Use It
- Enter your video topic — Describe the video's subject or key takeaway (e.g., "I paid off $20k in debt in 18 months," "the food combination that's ruining your digestion," "I tried 5 productivity apps so you don't have to").
- Choose a hook type — Select the psychological mechanism you want to trigger:
- Curiosity — Teases information the viewer must watch to get ("The thing nobody tells you about…")
- Shock — Opens with a surprising or counterintuitive statement
- Question — Engages with a direct question the viewer wants answered
- Challenge — Dares the viewer or sets up a challenge to watch
- Story — Opens mid-narrative to create immediate investment
- Visual — Describes a visual action or setup that grabs attention before any words are spoken
- Choose video length — Select 15, 30, 60, or 90 seconds. This calibrates the hook style to the video pacing.
- Click Generate Hooks.
Understanding the Results
You'll receive multiple hook options per style. Each includes the opening line of dialogue/text and, for Visual hooks, a description of the on-screen action. Use them as written or as a springboard for your own variation.
Tips for Best Results
- Test at least two hook types for important videos. Film two versions of your opening and see which holds watch-time better.
- Curiosity hooks work across all niches. If you're unsure which type to use, start with Curiosity.
- Never reveal the payoff in the hook. The hook should tease, not deliver — the delivery is what keeps people watching.
- Pair with the Script Generator for a complete video: hook at the top, script in the middle, CTA at the end.
